Clay Aiken Blogs, Patrick Swayze Experiences a “Miracle,” and Amy Adams is Engaged

He is almost a dad himself, but Clay Aiken is blogging about a recent UNICEF trip he took to Somalia and Kenya. He talks about how the violence in each country has left thousands of children homeless. Even as things are looking better, many children have not returned to school. Aiken wrote, “Getting children back to school is vital for their protection, and helps build a sense of normalcy in their lives. The re-establishment of schools in the most difficult circumstances is a testament to the commitment of UNICEF and to Kenyans.” He went on to say that every child … Continue reading

The first upcoming movie is “Arthur and the Invisibles which stars Freddie Highmore (from the newest incarnation of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”), Mia Farrow and the voices of Madonna, David Bowie and Snoop Dogg. Inside the Disney Limbo

After previewing “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” last week, I began wondering about the status of many other upcoming Disney films. While researching the movies Disney’s got on its production line, I discovered many promising titles (and some not so promising) that are currently in a state of limbo. A number of interesting projects are in various stages of halted production over at Disney right now. For today’s blog I thought I’d highlight some of these projects. “Enchanted 2” – All right, I’m cheating some here. The House of Mouse just announced that they plan to make a … Continue reading

Hawaiian Location for Fourth “Pirates” Film

My second and final Hawaii week installment has Disney promising a swashbuckling adventure in Hawaii’s tropical paradise. Executives at Disney have announced that the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie will be filmed in Hawaii. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will begin filming this summer on Oahu and Kauai. It’s slated for release in 2011, likely in the summer. Few details are known yet for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” The movie is a confirmed adaptation, in places, of the 1988 historical fantasy novel “On Stranger Tides” by Tim Powers. The main plot point in the … Continue reading

In the age of reimaginations (think Get Smart, Transformers and the upcoming Star Trek) is it any surprise that Disney imagineers are re-imagining another feature of the Disney properties? They did it with the Living Seas, transforming it into to the Seas with Nemo & Friends. Pleasure Island Disney is closing the nightclubs on Pleasure Island. Kevin Lansberry, Downtown Disney Vice President, describes their decision as “we are currently considering a number of unique concepts from around the globe as we re-imagine Pleasure Island.” Six clubs will close on September 27 (Mannequins, 8 Trax, BET, Adventurers Club, Motion and Comedy … Continue reading

“She’s the Man” is a loose adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, “Twelfth Night.” Amanda Bynes plays Viola, a high school student at Cornwall who loves playing soccer, and she’s pretty good at it. Her boyfriend Justin is on the boy’s team at school and tells her she’s just as good as anyone on his team, but the school budget doesn’t extend far enough and the girls’ team is cut. She thinks the girls are just as good as the boys and wants to prove it, but the coach doesn’t even want to let them try out and create a co-ed … Continue reading

Do Disney Princesses Hurt Self-Image in Little Girls?

Has your little girl ever dressed up like a Disney Princess? Mine has. She had a box of play clothes at age three that included outfits for Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. For her third Halloween, she dressed up in a red Belle (from Beauty in the Beast) gown and called herself the Princess Cassidy. For fourth Halloween, she dressed up in a yellow Belle dress in order to be Belle herself. She loves to play dress up, she loves to play Princess and whether that princess is Jasmine, Aurora, Cinderella, Tinker Bell or other, she loves to become … Continue reading
