Hancock (2008)

Let me begin this review with the fact that this is not the movie that is advertised in the previews. The first 30 minutes, yes, the rest of the movie? Not so much. Secondly, despite the fact that it’s PG-13 and it’s about a ‘reluctant superhero’ – this is not a movie for little kids at all. In fact, I think 13 really does stretch the youngest age for the film. That said; let’s take a moment to talk about Hancock. The Man We meet Hancock and get to know him in the first 30 minutes of the film. He … Continue reading

The Incredible Hulk (2008)

Forget 2003’s Hulk film directed by Ang Lee. The new movie throws out that continuity and attaches itself firmly to the 1970s television series of the same name. The movie takes into account the continuity of the summer’s other big hit Iron Man (which I haven’t gotten to see yet unfortunately) and future projects such as The Avengers, but more on that later. The Movie Bruce Banner (now played by Edward Norton) is hiding out in Brazilian slums while he investigates the possibility of a cure in the form of rare flowers. William Hurt takes a turn as the military … Continue reading

Groupon Snags Edward Norton

I’ve written before about Edward Norton in my Green Celebrity series. This week, Groupon, the deal-of-the-day website, announced that it is teaming up with Norton for an Earth Day challenge. Norton played green for the big screen (as the Incredible Hulk), but this time, the socially conscious actor is hoping this Groupon challenge will help raise funds for green causes. Norton, who is also a U.N. Ambassador for Biodiversity, also is involved in Crowdrise, which I’ve also blogged about before. In case you missed that blog, Crowdrise is a fundraising site for charities. In addition to Norton, other celebrities such … Continue reading

Disney Dithering on Next Marvel Movie Hero

Way back when Disney bought Marvel, a move first announced almost a year ago, a few questions immediately popped to fans’ minds. One of the most prominent: what will the movies look like? Will they take on a classy but maybe too squeaky-clean Disney shine? Will Disney keep their hands off entirely, or will the combination of Disney’s resources with the Marvel movie studio make for even bigger and better superhero films? We haven’t seen the answers to any of those questions yet. While Disney did profit from “Iron Man 2,” due to its release by Marvel Studios, now a … Continue reading

Movies Week in Review June 23rd-28th

We have a little bit of everything for you this week in Movie Reviews! We started out the week with “Raising Helen,” a romantic comedy about a career woman (Kate Hudson) who inherits her sister’s children when she is killed. As Helen learns how to be a parent, she’s helped along the way by her other sister (Joan Cusack) and by the surprisingly good-looking pastor of their new church (John Corbett). “Get Smart” is a remake of the old classic television show and manages to update the premise while still staying true to its roots. Starring Anne Hathaway as Agent … Continue reading

Juicy Hollywood Tidbits – April 18, 2007

In the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy, small pieces of Hollywood news keep trickling in. Here is some of the latest: He’s a Hunk, but Is He a Hulk? The answer is, apparently, yes! If you have read a few of my past blogs, you know I absolutely love Edward Norton. Now, he has been named to play scientist/superhero Bruce Banner in the big screen version of The Incredible Hulk. While the 2003 version Hulk was only a modest success at the box office and garnered mostly poor reviews, Marvel and Universal Pictures is hoping this one will do … Continue reading
