Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

The Holiday (2006)

In this delightful romantic comedy, Kate Winslet stars as Iris Simpkins, newspaper columnist, head over heels in love with a man she can’t have. Jasper Bloom (Rufus Sewell) is handsome, charming, and an absolute womanizer. He led her on, dumped her, and now uses her for his personal errands and as his shoulder to cry on, even though he’s engaged to someone else. She doesn’t want to be in this toxic relationship anymore, but she’s so in love with him, she can’t imagine telling him off. Amanda Woods (Cameron Diaz) is a career woman, owner of a highly successful company … Continue reading

Just in Time for the Holidays—Celebrity Bundles of Joy

What a Christmas it will be around Chris O’Donnell’s house—Santa’s going to be spending extra time there this year now that he has a seventh stocking to fill. According to news reports, the Grey’s Anatomy alum and his wife just welcomed their fifth child, a daughter they named Maeve Frances O’Donnell. O’Donnell’s rep says Maeve was 8 lbs. and 21½ inches long when she was born December 10th in Los Angeles. She joins sister Lily, 8, and brothers Chip, 7; Charlie, 4; Finley, 20 months. CNN anchor Campbell Brown and her husband Dan Senor will have a Christmas they won’t … Continue reading

A Perfect Day (2006)

When I reviewed Richard Paul Evans’ book “A Perfect Day,” I didn’t realize that book had been filmed as a made-for-TV movie, nor did I know that movie would be released on DVD this very week. Life is just cool that way sometimes. What if you knew you were going to die on Christmas Day, and that’s only a few weeks off? Would you try to make amends for past wrongs, spend a little more time with loved ones? This is the question Robert Harlan must face. Suddenly famous with the sale of his first novel, Robert (Rob Lowe) goes … Continue reading

Deck the Halls (2006)

The perfect Christmas movie uplifts and inspires, sometimes makes us laugh, often makes us cry, and always gives us the warm, fuzzy feeling of Christmas. “Deck the Halls” did absolutely none of those things for me. Matthew Broderick plays Steve Finch, the town eye doctor and also the chairman of the Christmas Festival. The town has been getting ready for the holidays and so has Steve, with his obsessive-compulsive need to organize everything down to the last speck. His wife (Kristin Davis) tries to help him see that they don’t need to be so uptight about the schedule, but he’s … Continue reading

The Best of the February Marriage Blog – Letters of Love

Typically I write about my Best of Moments at the end of the month, but I was a little tied up at the end of February this month. But I wanted to take a few moments here, while we are still at the beginning of March to talk about what I think was our best of February Marriage Blogs. The Letters of Love series was very near and dear to my heart. When I initially conceived the idea, I thought I would get a small handful of letters to publish from one reader to someone in their life they loved. … Continue reading

How Much Did You Spend for Holiday Gifts?

I’m always very curious and sometimes surprised at how much Americans spend on holiday gifts. For Christmas 2005, I had a banner year, receiving my very own lap top from my sweet husband. Not only was I thrilled at the gift, but I had to smile at his frugality. The laptop was purchased from Apple reconditioned, which means he saved significant bucks. And, since I use it almost exclusively for my freelance writing, it is a big tax write off. Whoo hoo. After that splurge, we got back to basics for this past 2006 holiday season, getting things that were … Continue reading
