Tarzan II (2005)

“Tarzan II” was released after “Tarzan and Jane,” which was the sequel to “Tarzan.” Therefore, “Tarzan II” could be called a “midquel.” Yeah, I know, I’d never heard of that word before either. But it’s the best way to describe the placement of the movie. In this film, we see Tarzan as a little boy, struggling to fit in with his surroundings. He’s concerned that he’s not as fast as the other apes, and his good friend Terk humors him by chasing him around the jungle so he can get more practice. There’s a legend floating around about a scary … Continue reading

Tarzan and Jane (2002)

Sometimes when a movie is a big hit, the movie makers think, “Well, if we did so well with that one, how about a sequel?” They tried this with “Tarzan and Jane,” and I’m sorry to say, it just didn’t work. Jane has been living in the jungle with Tarzan for a year now, and to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, she wants to plan a special surprise. She meets up with Tarzan’s best friends Tantor and Turk and they discuss ways to commemorate the day. Jane’s ideas all lean toward holding a fancy party, but Tarzan’s friends are quick … Continue reading

My Top 5 Animal Loving Role Models

For National Inspirational Role Model Month (which November is) over in Marriage I wrote about my favorite TV wives as role models from the 1950s thru the 1970s and 1980s thru the present. Here in Pets I’d like to do something similar: list those people involved with animals who influenced me to love and care for them like I do. 1. My dad, Ralph Mroch: My dad’s got to have one of the most tender hearts towards animals of anyone in my family. As I wrote about in Where My Compassion for Animals Comes From, I get my love of … Continue reading

George of the Jungle 2 (2003)

I really liked “George of the Jungle,” so when I saw that there was a sequel, I knew I had to see it. One disappointing fact was obvious right away – Brendan Fraser was no longer playing George, and the movie makers made a joke about it right off the bat. When George comes on the screen, the narrator says, “Who are you?” George says, “I new George. Studio too cheap to pay Brendan Fraser.” Several other comments are made throughout the film to spoof the fact that our favorite star had been replaced. I enjoy it when films make … Continue reading

George of the Jungle (1997)

Is it late at night? Are you hyped up on sugar? Then this movie is for you! George (Brendan Fraser) was lost in the jungle as a small boy and was raised by apes. (Yes, this is a Tarzan spoof.) When Ursula, an adventurous heiress, comes to the jungle in the hopes of having some real experiences before settling down in marriage, she comes afoul of a ravenous lion. Before she has time to scream, George comes swooping in on his vine and rescues her, showing that lion who’s boss! What Ursula doesn’t realize is that George and the lion … Continue reading
