Catch and Release (2006)

Jennifer Garner stars as Gray, a girl whose fiancé has been killed in an accident, in this strange and unsettling movie. The funeral is held amidst all the wedding presents that have been arriving, and Gray isn’t sure how she can handle the strange juxtaposition. How does she prepare herself to deal with his death when she was getting ready to start a life with him? Going off to the bathroom to seek some solitude, she climbs into the tub and draws the curtain, just wanting everyone to leave her alone. What she doesn’t expect is for the caterer and … Continue reading

Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

This quirky movie was by far my favorite out of all the films produced in the year 2006. Perhaps it’s because I’m an author, but I completely related to the story. Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) works for the IRS, doing audits. He has a bit of an OCD about his routines, from getting ready in the morning to keeping the exact time on his watch. He’s single and has no one to distract him from his patterns. Until one morning, that is, when he starts to hear a woman’s voice narrating everything he does. At first, the voice just says … Continue reading

Forbes Announces List of Most Overpaid Movie Stars

Forbes is at it again – this time, uncovering the most overpaid movie stars. Now, before you start, let me state that they did it very scientifically. They looked at the star’s last three films that opened before January 1 (to give it time to be released on DVD). They discounted animated films, supporting roles, and any star that consistently earned less than $5 million per movie. To calculate the gross income for every dollar paid, those at Forbes took half of the worldwide box office per movie, then added the first three months of DVD revenues. They then subtracted … Continue reading

Week in Review: February 4th-9th

We had a really fun week here in Movies. Can’t decide what to rent? Take a look at the following and see what appeals to you. “Corrina, Corrina” stars Whoopi Goldberg and tells of the way one incredible housekeeper changed the lives of a widower and his daughter. A heartfelt and deeply touching movie that addresses loss and racism. Amanda Bynes stars in “She’s the Man,” a comedy about a girl who pretends to be her twin brother in order to play on the boys’ soccer team. She wasn’t planning to fall in love with her roommate, though. “Must Love … Continue reading

Heath Ledger’s Death—What’s Real and What’s Rumor

Just as they did when Anna Nicole Smith was found dead, celebrity rumor mills have been working overtime in the days following Heath Ledger’s death. The fact that pills were found near the actor’s body certainly didn’t help to lessen growing speculation. Add to that the bizarre involvement of a masseuse who called Ledger’s alleged lady love former “Full House” actress Mary Kate Olsen before dialing 911 and you got the recipe for a full blown celebrity circus. So what is fact and what is fiction? Let’s break it down: THE FUNERAL According to a New York funeral home director, … Continue reading

The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon – Mini Grey

We all know that the little dog laughed and then the dish ran away with the spoon. But where did they go? What ended up happening to them? Did they live happily ever after, or end up in a rummage sale somewhere? “The Adventures of the Dish and the Spoon” by Mini Grey answers these burning questions. After running for quite some time, they came to the ocean. Dish lay down and let Spoon ride on top, like a boat, and they sailed across, to end up at Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. What a glorious sight! They … Continue reading
