Hawaiian Location for Fourth “Pirates” Film

My second and final Hawaii week installment has Disney promising a swashbuckling adventure in Hawaii’s tropical paradise. Executives at Disney have announced that the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie will be filmed in Hawaii. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will begin filming this summer on Oahu and Kauai. It’s slated for release in 2011, likely in the summer. Few details are known yet for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” The movie is a confirmed adaptation, in places, of the 1988 historical fantasy novel “On Stranger Tides” by Tim Powers. The main plot point in the … Continue reading

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007)

I’m so confused. I thought I was confused after the first Pirates when we thought Bootstrap Bill was dead, but he couldn’t be dead, because he would have to be undead, right? But then in “Dead Man’s Chest” we learn that he’s slowly turning into a barnacle on the Flying Dutchman. Whatever. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the Pirates series, it’s to enjoy the films for what they are and to try not to analyze them too much, because they really don’t make a whole lot of sense. At the end of “Dead Man’s Chest,” we saw Elizabeth … Continue reading

Guide to Pirate Parenting – Tim Bete

When I first picked up “Cap’n Billy ‘The Butcher’ MacDougall’s Guide to Pirate Parenting,” I really had no idea what to expect. I thought perhaps it would be a book that compared raising children to training pirates, and that through the allegories, we would be taught new and vital information we need in order to be successful parents. What I actually got was a book that literally tells you how to raise your children to be pirates, and it’s absolutely hysterical. It’s a spoof on all the other parenting books out there, and makes you step back and realize that … Continue reading

Have You Checked Out IMDB.com?

I love the Internet Movie Database. I use it frequently as I’m blogging over in Movie Reviews. If you haven’t visited this site, you really should go take a look. When the homepage comes up, you can see at a glance which movies are coming out that week and which movies are doing the best at the box office. There’s also a list of what movies are coming out in the theaters in future weeks, and what DVDs are being released. It’s a great way to keep your finger on the pulse of movie entertainment. Off to the side is … Continue reading

Week in Review: February 4th-9th

We had a really fun week here in Movies. Can’t decide what to rent? Take a look at the following and see what appeals to you. “Corrina, Corrina” stars Whoopi Goldberg and tells of the way one incredible housekeeper changed the lives of a widower and his daughter. A heartfelt and deeply touching movie that addresses loss and racism. Amanda Bynes stars in “She’s the Man,” a comedy about a girl who pretends to be her twin brother in order to play on the boys’ soccer team. She wasn’t planning to fall in love with her roommate, though. “Must Love … Continue reading

New Members of the Billionaire Boys Club: Jack Sparrow & Will Turner

Last Friday, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest crossed the 1 billion dollar mark at the global box office and is the third film in history to cross that finish line following in such great footsteps as Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Disney is justifiably proud of their accomplishment since the film has been breaking records all over the world including holding the current #1 film spot for 2006 in the U.S. box office along with the #1 in the international box office. The Dead Man’s Chest opened in Italy yesterday and the … Continue reading
