National Treasure 2 – Book of Secrets

Soon after “National Treasure” starring Nicolas Cage hit its popularity in 2004 came the creation of “National Treasure 2 – Book of Secrets” also starring Cage. The plot of this sequel revolves around the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the struggle of two men to uphold their family’s name. It is brought to Ben Gate’s (Cage) attention that a missing page of Booth’s diary could connect Gate’s great-great-grandfather to Lincoln’s death. Gates sets out to prove this theory wrong. The only way to clear his family’s name is to once again go on a treasure hunt, this time for … Continue reading

National Treasure: Still Raking in the Dough

I love Nicolas Cage in dramatic (Leaving Las Vegas), comedic (Peggy Sue Got Married), and romantic roles (Moonstruck), but I think my favorite genre for him is action/adventure. I was in the theatre to see both Con Air and The Rock and they are still two of my favorite Cage movies. Of course, when he did National Treasure, I was overjoyed! In case you missed National Treasure, it is an action/adventure flick that features Nicolas as Benjamin Gates. His family has a long history of being treasure hunters and he carries that on by hunting for treasure, supposedly hidden by … Continue reading

Join in the World’s Biggest Treasure Hunt!

In anticipation of the opening of National Treasure: Book of Secrets on December 21st of this year, Walt Disney Pictures is sponsoring the world’s biggest treasure hunt and it starts today! Though purely fiction, National Treasure was a very entertaining (and educational) Indiana Jones style adventure that takes place right here in the U.S.A. (You can read the Families.com movie review of National Treasure here). Although not meant for very young children, I think National Treasure’s real appeal was in how well it … Continue reading

Oh, that crazy Super Bowl XLVII!  First, Beyonce flashes a little diamond sign and before the game is over, the Internet is abuzz about how she and hubby Jay-Z must be a part of the Illuminati, that secret group trying to rule the world. And, speaking of secret groups trying to rule the world, there was another Super Bowl controversy you may not have heard about.  There was a Mercedes-Benz ad, which featured Willem Defoe as a character who appeared to be the devil. I watched the ad and honestly, I paid so little attention that I didn’t even know … Continue reading

Scary Places: The White House

Right now, most people are focused on the White House for one reason – who’s going to be the next president. But, you know me – I am focused on it to talk about the ghosts of the White House. That’s right, one of the most famous houses is America is reportedly haunted. Over the years, visitors as well as staff and residents have reported seeing ghosts and experiencing strange phenomena in the White House. The White House became livable for presidents in 1800, with John Adams being the first to move in. Since then, every president has lived in … Continue reading
