Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (2007)

At last, a family movie that we truly can all enjoy, from my husband down to my toddler. “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium” had something in it for each of us. Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) is a very old man, and I don’t just mean elderly. He’s over two hundred years old, and he’s had a great many adventures. His childlike appreciation of life has made all who know him appreciate it too, and now, in his later years, he shares that love with the customers in his toy store. His store manager, Molly Mahoney, is also is very good friend. … Continue reading

Hancock (2008)

Let me begin this review with the fact that this is not the movie that is advertised in the previews. The first 30 minutes, yes, the rest of the movie? Not so much. Secondly, despite the fact that it’s PG-13 and it’s about a ‘reluctant superhero’ – this is not a movie for little kids at all. In fact, I think 13 really does stretch the youngest age for the film. After a time Dr Evans played by Robert Ryan, elicits the story of why the shaven headed child, has run away. From there it goes back to events leading up to his flight. Peter is an orphan … Continue reading

Movies Week in Review – March 10th-15th

I saw some fun movies this week. Would you like to hear about them? First was “Just Like Heaven,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. He’s looking for an apartment to rent and finds one, only to discover it’s inhabited by a ghost who refuses to believe she’s dead. It’s a fun romantic comedy that the guys will enjoy, too. “My Girl 2” tells us what happens to Vada Sultenfuss after the death of her good friend, Thomas Jay. Still living in the funeral parlor, she’s faced with death every day, but she hasn’t yet dealt with the death that … Continue reading
