Are you unable to attend RootsTech this year? Those of you at home can follow along by paying attention to some of the Official Bloggers of RootsTech 2012. What does it mean to have been designated an Official Blogger of RootsTech 2012? Big (1988)

“Big” was one of the first movies I ever saw starring Tom Hanks, who, I must say, is a comic genius. Josh Baskin is a thirteen-year-old boy who has a crush on an older girl. When he tries to get her attention, she’s not impressed. Placing a token into a fortune-telling machine, Josh makes a wish. “I want to be big,” he says. When he wakes up the next morning, his wish has come true. When his mother sees him (now played by Tom Hanks) she chases him out of the house, and he turns to his best friend Billy … Continue reading

Ancestry.com has Updated its Yearbook Collection

It is always great when genealogy websites update their collections. What once was a “dead end” might now contain the information you are seeking. Ancestry.com has updated its Yearbook Collection. Your relatives could be in them. You can also find yearbook photos of celebrities. School yearbooks hold a lot of interesting information about what your relatives or ancestors were like when they were young. You are very likely to find a “school portrait” image within a yearbook. If your relative, or ancestor, was popular, or very active in school activities, there may be more photos of them in their yearbook. … Continue reading

Pack Your Bag It’s Time To Go

If you are getting close to your delivery date, it is time to pack your bag for the trip of a lifetime. Before you drag out your suitcase and start tossing in your sunscreen and beach blanket, I should tell you that it’s a different kind of trip. That all important trip to the hospital (if you are planning to give birth at a hospital) where you will give birth to your baby. In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that with both pregnancies I did not pack my bag for the hospital until right before I left. … Continue reading

Ancestry.com frequently adds new records to its extensive collections. Today, Ancestry.com announced, on its Facebook page, that 2 million records have been added to their Massachusetts Town Vital Collection. Check Store Policy Before You Shop

One of the good things about shopping is that depending upon what you want to buy, you have at least a couple of options of where to buy it from. This is especially true if you consider the wide variety of things that are available online. Many factors like price and convenience will probably influence your decision of where to buy something. There is another important factor that you may want to consider when you are making a choice about where to shop – company policy. Policies for returns, price adjustments, and just about any other customer service issue that … Continue reading

Staying Put

I made my first scrapbook in 1988. I still have the lavender and white memory book filled with photos and souvenirs from my first cross country road trip, but the interior has seen better days. Twenty-three years ago scrapbook supplies were not exactly plentiful and they were certainly not as advanced as they are today. One of the biggest issues facing my first scrapbook has to do with the photo corners I used. Many of them simply lost their staying power and have detached from the page leaving my pictures in a heap at the bottom of the layout. It’s … Continue reading

Procrastination With Special Education Could be Expensive

The Department of Education in New York could be creating a very expensive problem for itself. Education officials have delayed finding placement for 15,500 kindergarten students who have special needs. This could result in having those students sent to private schools, with the public school system being required to pay for it. The delay is also causing anxiety for the parents of these children. The New York City Department of Education is struggling to figure out where 15,500 kindergarten students who have special needs will attend school in the coming school year. They must find placement for all of these … Continue reading
