Babe: Pig in the City (1998)

“Babe: Pig in the City” picks up immediately after the original movie, “Babe,” leaves off. Babe has just won the sheepdog competition and returns home to much cheering and acclaim. All in all, he and the boss (James Cromwell) are pleased to return to the quiet of the farm, where the boss picks up on things left undone, including the fixing of the water pump attached to the well. But when Babe gets curious and wants to see just what the boss is doing down in the well, he causes an accident that leaves the boss injured, and the boss’s … Continue reading

Babe (1995)

Reviewing “Charlotte’s Web” the other day put me in mind of another favorite movie about a pig. Like “Charlotte’s Web,” “Babe” is about a cute little piglet who goes to live on a farm, unaware that he will be on the menu before long. Another similarity between the two films is the way the other animals help the pig accomplish an amazing feat that keeps them from being eaten. But that’s pretty much where the similarities end. Babe, the runt of his litter, is offered as a prize at the fair. If you can guess how much he weighs, you … Continue reading

Who Won’t Be Eating Turkey Today

I am not a huge fan of turkey, but Thanksgiving just doesn’t seem like Thanksgiving without one, at least to me. But, there are plenty of celebrities that won’t be eating turkey this year because they are vegetarian or vegan. PETA named funny man Russell Brand one of its Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2011, so needless to say he won’t be gnawing on a turkey leg tomorrow. The female Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity of 2011 was Kristen Wiig of “Saturday Night Live” and Bridemaids fame, so no turkey for her either. There are several Academy Award winners and nominees who will … Continue reading

Are You Ready For “Pig Brother”?

If you’re a fan of reality television, you’re probably familiar with Big Brother — the show where strangers are put in a house together for the world to watch. Cameras capture every move as one by one, the contestants are voted out of the house. In preparation for the third annual Speck-Spektakel in Helfenberg, Austria, the town is hosting their own version of Big Brother — featuring four piglets. “Pig Brother” stars Piggy, Lilly, Pauli, and Fredi competing for the title of Super Pig at Helfenberg’s Speck-Spektakel (Bacon Trade Fair). Between now and the June festival, you can watch the … Continue reading

Gordy

“Gordy” is a family friendly film that captures the viewer’s heart. Gordy, a young piglet, and his family live on a farm that is going under. As a last promise to his father, Gordy vows to take care of the family. Gordy discovers that his family has been taken “north”. He sets out to find them. After sneaking into a basket, Gordy ends up in the back of a truck at … Continue reading

The Little Bear Movie (2001)

If you’re not familiar with the character of Little Bear, allow me to take a moment to introduce you. He began as a children’s book character, the creation of Else Holmelund Minarik and illustrator Maurice Sendak. Later he was turned into a children’s television show which aired on Nickelodeon. He lives with his mother and father in a small but cozy cottage. His father is a fisherman and is often gone, so Little Bear spends much of his time with his mother. He also has friends – Cat, Duck, Hen, No-Feet (a snake) and a little girl named Emily and … Continue reading

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

Going in to this film, I had no idea what to expect. I knew the kids liked it – they saw it with my husband, but I wasn’t there. A little hesitantly, I sat down and watched it with them, and to my surprise, laughed the whole way through it. Wallace is the owner of a humane pest control service called “Anti-Pesto.” (If that doesn’t give you a chuckle right off the bat, I don’t know what will.) He’s also an inventor and has filled his house with gadgets to wake him up, dress him, feed him, and capture the … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Your Adoption Experience

Scrapbooking your adoption experience is not a whole lot different than scrapbooking your everyday life. You create a page in the same manner you would a traditional layout. However, because your adoption experiences are so special and unique, you might wish to commemorate them into a whole album dedicated solely to the experience, and use special journaling, poems or quotes. I am part of the adoption triad, I am an adoptee. I have a great relationship with both my adoptive mother, and my biological mother. Both women are included in my albums. However, my experiences with searching for my biological … Continue reading
